Blue Onion

This series was inspired by my paternal grandmother’s experience living in Poland in the immediate aftermath of WW2, during which she walked around destroyed and abandoned homes looking for household items that could be sold. She learned all of the porcelain factories’ marks to better distinguish the valuable pieces. Throughout the Soviet occupation, she and my grandfather (and later also my parents) sold collectables, among other things, on the black market as a major source of their income.
